This Day in History: June 11, 1982 – Grease 2 is Born

Maxwell Caulfield & Michelle Pfeiffer star in Paramount Pictures, Grease 2!Happy Birthday to our beloved film. The Music and Feeling Go On Forever!

I remember the day like it was yesterday. You’ve all heard this story a billion times but just a refresh…

It’s a Friday and its June 11th and for the past 7 months or so, we’ve all been patiently waiting for the sequel to the coolest musical in our lifetime, the original Grease. How many days did I sit in a theater either with my Dad and Mom or my cousin, watching John and Olivia fall in, then out, then back in love over and over again. I’ve lost count, but I assure you it was a lot!

Michelle Pfeiffer as Stephanie Zinone in Grease 2The whole family, including my cousin, all made it down to the Brookhurst Theater in
Fountain Valley for opening night. The screening time was 7:35. (I know I must have that ticket somewhere in my stash of G2 goodies.) From the moment the lights went out, till 1 hour and 50 minutes later when they came back on…I was in paradise.

Ladies and Gentlemen, a photo of The T BirdsI went back the next day, and then again the day after that. My entire summer was filled with Grease 2. Between the Cinema around the corner to the Cypress Twin next to my cousin’s house, I would sit, day after day, hour after hour and watch the film in pure bliss. By the time the summer of 82 was over, I had seen Grease 2 over 40 times.

Photo of Johnny & Michael exchanging homework for cash- I Got a Rep to ProtectAh memories. They are all good, none bad. This movie has brought me more joy than any other in my life. Music, Michelle Pfeiffer, Maxwell Caulfield (he really is friggin’ cool!) and all filmed 20 minutes from my house, so I get to visit the school…often!

The Music and Feeling go on ForeverThank you Grease 2. You’re still as cool as you were in 1982. You still get my heart pumping and my emotions running high.  We’re looking forward to your 30th next year. We’re all planning to do something really big for this one. Keep your ears and eyes posted cats!

And remember….Grease is still the word!

  2. I remember the first time I saw Grease 2 was on cable TV when I was a kid. I was home sick with a flu or something and it came on HBO. I was hooked! The movie made me feel some much better. I also make a listing of when it was airing again and watched it over and over and over driving my mom mad.

Would put on my older brothers leather jacket just to fee like a T-Bird! I like the OG Grease, but part 2 is my fav. Just LOVE the songs and find myself quoting lines from the movie in my everyday life without even thinking about it.

Grease 2 has that special feeling that not many movies can capture. Don’t know why the critics hated it so much and it bombed, they are all crazy!

I have been watching this movie over and over for 25 years and it still makes me feel like a teenager in love.

Love the site, keep it going forever!
